Welcome to the Vintage Fashion Library!
This is an original brochure, NOT a scan. Peterson's Magazine from August, 1887. Features lots of beautiful black and white drawings of fashions of the day, as well as original artwork. The back includes some designs for working in worsted and chenille, as well as an embroidery template. These are very basic illustrations, and would require some real observation to recreate them, as instructions are minimal.
About 50 pages. The covers are missing, and there may be some missing pages, but it's impossible to tell, as issues of this period did not start with page 1. That being said, if there are missing pages, I don't think it is many, as other issues I have have similar page counts. Binding was originally done with two staples and is loosening. I'm sure with much handling it will come loose, which is no surprise, given its age. There are a couple of pages tucked inside that appear to be from another issue, as one has an August date on it.
Such a beautiful insight into the historical fashion of the time.
**Please note that this does not include actual patterns.***
Vintage items have lived a previous life, thus they may show signs of wear, such as stains, creases, tears, foxing, marks or pinholes. We do our best to describe accurately.
Some patterns may have missing pieces. These are labelled “wounded birds”, and will list the missing pieces. Please read the listing carefully.
Patterns are shipped in plastic bags, with a backing board. This will protect them from the elements (and the post office).
