This is an original pattern, not a reproduction.  The date indicates it is from 1888.  It is printed on a newsprint type paper.  The pattern indicates that it is a full size pattern for cutting out jacket for morning dress for lady; seaside dress for young lady from 8-10 years, and diagrams for cutting out and designs for embroidering wall pockets, work basket, etc. This was a supplement to The Young Ladies' Journal, July 1888.

Description of ladies dress: "It is a very fashionable style for making the jackets of summer dresses for tennis, boating, seaside, etc.  It may be made of the same material as the skirt, in striped flannel, stockinette, pongee silk, etc.  The fronts and the back beneath the yoke are arranged in small flat pleats; the pleats are sewn again at the waist and a belt of silk or leather is worn over them, leaving the basque loose.  Three yards and a half of material twenty seven inches wide are needed for the jack.

Description of the girls' dress: The dress is suitable to be made in sere, tennis flannel, galatea, zephyr, or in almost any material.  It is cut to allow for a deep hem at the bottom of the bodice, through which a wide elastic the size of the waist is passed.  The sleeve is gathered into the shoulder and into the cuff.  The skirt is composed of a flat kilting, which should be cut to the length required for the wearer.

There is no size indicated, just that the girls' size is age 8-10 years.

The flip side has elaborate black and white drawings of other styles, probably available in this particular issue.

There are no measurements as to who it will fit.

It is uncut, and has been stored folded over the years and is coming apart at some of the creases, but other than that, is in good and useable condition. As per the norm for the era, there are no instructions.  It is impossible to tell if this is complete, as there are no pieces listed, but from the condition, I believe it to be unused and complete.  Please be aware when purchasing that this may not be the case.
